This papyrological fragment from the late 2nd or early 3rd Century CE, found at Kom Aushim, contains the final lines of a biography of the famous Greek poet Homer. The title and author of the biography can be seen at the end of the papyrus, identifying the work as On Homer by the Greek philosopher Alcidamas, who lived in the 4th Century BCE. Although Egypt was under Roman rule at the time this papyrus was made, the text is in Greek. Latin, the language of Egypt's Roman conquerors, eventually supplanted the Greek and Egyptian languages in administrative use, but popular texts and local records often continued to be written in Greek or Egyptian throughout the Roman period.
